WEDNESDAY 15TH JUNE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
REVIVAL RADIO WINS COMMUNITY RADIO LICENCE
Revival Radio, the Cumbernauld based broadcaster, has been awarded a
full-time community licence today by Ofcom, the industry regulator.
The licence is for 5 years and allows the station to operate for 24 hours,
7 days per week.
Chairman Ian Dunlop states “The team are absolutely delighted with
this award. We have worked for this for the last 9 years and look forward
to providing inspiring, dynamic and refreshingly different programmes
for our listeners. This is the first full-time radio licence for a Christian
based community radio station in Scotland so we are pioneering a new concept
in radio in Scotland.”
As well as producing radio programmes, Revival Radio is committed to
providing training in radio for people in the community.
Revival Radio previously operated under the Restricted Service Licence
scheme whereby a short term licence of up to 28 days is granted only twice
per year. Revival Radio broadcast under 14 of these licences in the past
9 years.
The station has modern studio facilities in Cumbernauld and has built
up a large audience believed to number in the thousands. An independent
audience survey report obtained in 1998 indicated that up to 38,000 people
listened to the station during its month-long broadcasts. During its most
recent broadcast in February 2005, 1700 phone calls were received by the
station.
