Outside BroadcastsRevival Radio frequently records events at other locations for broadcast at a future time. These events particularly include church services and concerts. Live outside broadcasts have been carried out, very successfully but somewhat infrequently. Most outside work has generally been carried out by the members of the Revival Radio technical team. Outside work is one aspect of Revival Radio which is likely to change under a full-time licence scenario, when more recordings will be required and there is likely to be a need to develop the ability to handle live outside broadcasts on a more frequent basis. To achieve this will require a number of dedicated teams of volunteers. Outside work is also likely to become part of the training services provided by Revival Radio.
Equipment used for outside recordings generally comprises a mixing desk, from four to six microphones (normally Shure SM58's), a long multi-core cable to cope with the variety of shapes and sizes of the locations at which we record two mini-disc recorders. We are currently looking at methods of portable computerised recording. Where a PA system mixing desk is in use at a venue, we will normally also take a feed from this desk, especially if radio mics are used by the venue. PA system mixes are generally not suitable for radio purposes. For radio it is important that there is audio at all times and that the correct audio is available at the correct time. Many PA mixes today will include the Praise Band instruments and vocals and the radio mix often requires a stronger input from the congregational singing and less from the praise band. |
